The penetration of Ga into various polymers (polyethylene, polyimide, polys
tyrene, polyethyleneterephtalate and polytetrafluoroethylene) was studied i
n the temperature interval from 5-80 degrees C. The amount of incorporated
Ga was determined by using a Cahn electrobalance and its concentration dept
h profiles by Rutherford backscattering. It was found that the Ga penetrate
s into polymers only from liquid phase and the Ga content in the samples in
creases with temperature and exposition time. Under the same experimental c
onditions, the Ga content is inversely proportional to the polymer density.
