Colloid-chemical properties and dispersity of styrene and methyl methacryla
te emulsions, which were prepared in the presence of olygomeric peroxyester
s, polycondensation products of polyethylene glycols with different degree
of ethoxylation and di-tert-butyl peroxypyromellitic acid, were studied. Ol
igomeric peroxyesters soluble in the hydrocarbon phase of emulsion are show
n to have surface-active properties at the styrene-water and methyl methacr
ylate-water interfaces, and, hence, emulsions of these monomers stabilized
by peroxyesters are stable during the polymerization process.
