Abstract
Ceramic firing is an irreversible process. Cracking and excessive deformati on reduce the yield which, at this stage of manufacture, is particularly un desirable both economically and environmentally, since firing is a very hig h energy process. A model has been developed to predict the temperature fie lds within ceramic pieces during firing and to simulate the associated cera mic deformation.
