The larval and pupal stages of Simulium (Rubzovia) paraloutetense Crosskey
are described following their first discovery in a spring trickle in Gran C
anaria Island where the species is endemic; data from the polytene chromoso
mes of the larval silk glands are included. Subgeneric placement of the spe
cies is revised in light of all the findings. A diagnosis for the subgenus
Rubzovia, a discussion of its geographical distribution and habitat, and a
key to the four known species are included.
