The reaction of secondary alpha-cyano or alpha-sulfonyl carbanions with cat
ionic (eta(6)-arene)tricarbonylmanganese complexes affords neutral mono- an
d dinuclear tricarbonyl(eta(5)-cyclo-hexadienyl)manganese complexes. The X-
ray analyses of three (eta(5)-cyclohexadienyl)Mn complexes (two mononuclear
and one dinuclear) obtained by addition of alpha-cyano carbanion to cation
ic (eta(6)-arene)manganese complexes are reported. The addition of benzylic
carbanions of (eta(6)-arene)tricarbonylchromium complexes to cationic (eta
(6)-arene)manganese complexes gives rise to the formation of the correspond
ing heterodinuclear [(eta(5)-cyclohexadienyl)-manganese-(eta(6)-arene)chrom
ium] complexes.
