Suggestions for efficiently determining the lifetimes and mass difference o
f the light and heavy B-s mesons (B-s(L) , B-s(H)) from B-s --> J/psi phi,
Ds*+Ds*- decays are given. Using appropriate weighting functions for thf an
gular distributions of the decay products (moment analysis), one can extrac
t (Gamma(H); Gamma(L); Delta m)(Bs). Such a moment analysis allows the dete
rmination of the relative magnitudes and phases of the CP-odd and CP even d
ecay amplitudes. Efficient determinations of CP-violating effects occuring
in B-s --> J/psi phi, Ds*+Ds*- are discussed in the light of a possible wid
th difference (Delta Gamma)(Bs), and the utility of this method for B --> J
/psi K*, D-s(*+)(D) over bar* decays is noted. Since our approach is very g
eneral, it can in principle be applied to all kinds of angular distribution
s and allows the determination of all relevant observables, including funda
mental CKM (Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa) parameters: as well as tests of vari
ous aspects of the factorization hypothesis. Explicit angular distributions
and weighting functions are given, and the general method that can be used
for any angular distribution is indicated.
