Rj. Uncles et al., Aircraft and sea-truth observations of salinity and temperature within theTweed Estuary and coastal-zone frontal system, INT J REMOT, 20(3), 1999, pp. 609-625
Results are presented of frontal phenomena in the Tweed Estuary, UK. Salini
ty distributions in the lower estuary were particularly complex and salinit
y stratification was strong. Large areas of high salinity waters abutted wa
ters of much lower salinity with the formation of distinct frontal systems.
These systems were largely controlled by the bathymetry of the region, esp
ecially the shoal and inlet morphologies. Sea-truth and remote sensing obse
rvations allowed the high-resolution, spatial determination of surface temp
erature and salinity fields within the frontal regions.
