Electrosynthesis of cupric oxide powder was carried out on a laboratory sca
le in an electrochemical cell under various experimental conditions. The el
ectrolysis was appraised in terms of the particle size of the cupric oxide
product and the anodic dissolution of the copper electrode. Using a previou
sly determined pH value of 7.50, the other optimum electrolysis operating c
onditions established were a current density of 4000 A m(-2), temperature o
f 353 K, and Na2SO4 concentration of 0.5 M. The optimum values of current e
fficiency, cell voltage and specific energy consumption for the electrochem
ical synthesis of cupric oxide powder were determined.
