Using IR spectroscopic data of Cr(CO)<INF>6</INF> absorbed on different sur
face centers on gamma-Al<INF>2</INF>O<INF>3</INF>,<INF></INF> we were able
to calculate isotherms for adsorption on these centers. Linear relations we
re observed between spectroscopic data (position, extinction coefficient, a
nd halfwidth values) of corresponding bands of Cr(CO)<INF>6</INF>, adsorbed
on different Lewis acid centers and the free enthalpy of adsorption. Thus
it is possible to determine Delta G<INF>ad</INF>a values for dif
ferent centers from one adsorption measurement and thus to characterize the
Lewis is acid strength of the centers. (C) 1999 Academic Press.
