Abstract
It is known that poly(beta-phenylpropyl L-aspartate) (3PLA) exhibits the re versible transformation from the right-handed alpha-helix to the left-hande d omega-helix in the solid state. In this study, the isothermal kinetics of this helix-helix transformation were examined for 3PLA mixed with poly(gam ma-phenethyl D-glutamate) by the DSC method. The isothermal transformation took place within several minutes and was analyzed according to the Avrami equation. The isotherms correspond to an Avrami exponent n = 2.3-2.4, showi ng that the helix-helix transformation is nearly a type of homogeneous nucl eation and one-dimensional growth.
