Abstract
A novel "thick-lens" model for the Kerr medium of a Kerr lens mode-locked s olid-state laser resonator is presented, With the thick-lens-like matrix fo rmalisms the cavity mode modulation outside as well as inside the laser rad can be calculated. Criteria for the design and optimization of the resonat or with hard or soft aperture are predicted efficiently.
