Mossbauer measurements were carried out over the range 80<T<200K on decamet
hyl-ferrocene and C-60 (ferrocene)(2). Ferrocene was also measured at room
temperature. The obtained Mossbauer parameters showed that there is no meas
urable chemical interaction between C60 and ferrocene but the slightly decr
eased isomer shift of decamethyl-ferrocene (compared to that of ferrocene)
demonstrated that the donor character of the methyl groups can have an effe
ct on the electronic structure of iron (through the cp rings), as well.
The asymmetry of the Mossbauer lines was explained by both the Goldanskii -
Karyagin effect and texture of the samples. The texture was found to be do
minant in decamethyl-ferrocene and the Goldanskii-Karyagin effect results i
n the major part of asymmetry in fullerene(ferrocene)(2).
