The lattice vibrational modes of the chalcopyrite compound CuGaTe2 have bee
n obtained at room temperature by the unpolarized Raman spectra. Lines obse
rved at 76, 167, 203 and 211 cm(-1), assigned to the E or B-2 modes, agree
quite well with the peaks observed from infrared reflectivity in polycrysta
lline samples of this material. On the other hand, using a simplified versi
on of the Keating's model, the peak that appears at 138 cm(-1), which is on
ly Raman active, is assigned to the A(1) mode. Two peaks, at 223 and 274 cm
(-1), probably having the E symmetry, are also observed. (C) 1999 Elsevier
