We report the case of a patient who developed peritonitis due to a multires
istant Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain. According to antibiogram results, we
considered that the only possible antibiotic treatment consisted in cefepim
e 200 mg/kg/day, associated with colimycine 1.5 million units x 3 daily and
rifampin 600 mg x 3 daily. The patient's condition improved after a 3-week
treatment Although we used a very high dosage of cefepime, no adverse even
t occurred. In conclusion, we consider that high doses of cefepime might be
an alternative treatment of multiresistant bacteria. (C) 1999 Elsevier Par
