Abstract
We propose an algorithm for exact mapping of gene starts in completely sequ enced bacterial genomes. Unlike the existing algorithms, it does not requir e learning samples and does not rely on homology. We present the results of testing the algorithm on genomes of Escherichia coil, Haemophilus influenz ae, Helicobacter pylori, Bacillus subtilis, Methanococcus jannaschii, Archa eoglobus fulgidus, Methanobacterium thermoautatrophicum. The reliability of the available annotations of complete genomes is discussed.
