Abstract
Gamma-ray spectroscopy can be used to identify short-lived fission products in chemical fractions obtained by gas phase transport and liquid-liquid ex traction. Volatile compounds of selenium and bromine fission products of U- 235 were studied using a semi-automatic batch solvent extraction technique. The resulting gamma-ray spectra of the heptane and water phases were consi stent with the nuclides of interest (Se-84, Se-85, Se-86 and Br-86, Br-87, Br-88), activation products, and neutron reactions with the Ge in the detec tors. The procedure used to identify these peaks is reported. (C) 1999 Else vier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
