An angular correlation for the reaction C-12(N-14, Li-6)Ne-20*(alpha) popul
ating the 8.78-MeV 6(+) level in Ne-20 has been measured for zero-degree ge
ometry at a primary N-14 energy of 48 MeV. The results suggest a 20% upper
limit on the contribution of compound-nucleus formation. The possible main
direct mechanisms of the reaction are discussed.
