Abstract
Pre-equilibrium behavior of the rho meson in a pionic heat bath is investig ated on the basis of equation of motion in the Heisenberg picture. A time-d ependent population of the rho meson and its relaxation to thermal equilibr ium are studied. We also discuss the pre-equilibrium effect on dilepton pro duction in relativistic heavy ion collisions, assuming vector meson dominan ce.
