Abstract
Insulin fibrils, formed by native and by monomeric molecules, have bee n prepared. When examined by electron microscopy they are indistinguis hable. The packing of the monomeric insulin in the crystal lattice sug gests how insulin fibres are constructed; the model explains the accel erated fibre formation by monomeric insulins and identifies mutations to probe the mechanism further.
