Conducting polymer colloids containing a protein (HSA) have been produced u
sing electrochemical polymerisation under hydrodynamically controlled condi
tions. The effect of buffer, supporting electrolyte, pH and steric stabilis
er on the colloid formation process has been evaluated. Absence of the ster
ic stabiliser results in a colloid with an increased protein content. The p
rotein remains active after incorporation into the colloid. (C) 1999 Elsevi
