Complexation reactions in the copper(II) hexacyanoferrate(II) gelatin-immob
ilized matrix systems contacting aqueous solutions of 8-mercaptoquinoline 5
,8-dimercaptoquinoline, and 5-thiomethyl-8-mercaptoquinoline in an alkaline
medium (pH 12.0) were studied, It was found that the incorporation of thes
e ligands into the inner coordination sphere of Cu(II) is preceded by the d
estruction of copper(II) hexacyanoferrate(II) in the alkaline medium and fo
rmation of polymeric [Cu(OH)(2)](n). Under these conditions, the CuL2 chela
te is formed in the Cu(II)-8-mercaptoquinoline (HL) system, the Cu(HL)(2),
[Cu(HL)(OH)(H2O)], and [Cu2L2(H2O)] complexes are formed in the Cu(II)-5,8-
dimercaptoquinoline (H2L) system, and the Cu(HL)(2) and [CuL2](n) complexes
are formed in the Cu(II)-5-thiomethyl-8-mercaptoquinoline (HL) system.
