Abstract
Peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC) provide short- to intermedia te-term intravenous access. As an alternative to centrally placed catheters , they represent a safe and cost-effective method of central venous access. The following article describes the currently available catheter types, in dications for placement of PICCs, radiological insertion techniques, and po tential complications associated with PICC placement.
