The formation of the conducting polyaniline/poly(ethylene terephthalate) co
mposite by the chemical redox polymerization of An in the matrix has been i
nvestigated. The process runs in the chlorine (bromine) containing water me
dium under the action of the products of the halogen hydrolysis. The possib
ility and peculiarities of the process strongly depend on a matrix nature.
In particular, it could not be realised in polypyromellitimide and poly(vin
ylidenefluoride) matrixes but run in poly(ethylene terephthalate), bispheno
l-A polycarbonate and polyvinylchloride ones. It is supposed that high spec
ificity of this process in terms of a choice of the matrix and oxidant is a
consequence of formation of the transition state including An molecule, th
e elementary unit of poly(ethylene terephthalate) and HOCl molecule, antece
dent to the starting reaction (the An oxidation). (C) 1999 Elsevier Science
