Abstract
The formation of trans-3-hydroxy-4-phenylbutyrolactone from trans-styrylace tic acid mediated by aqueous KHSO5 is described. The lactone is proposed to arise via an epoxide intermediate directly formed by the monopersulfate. ( C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
