Copper (I) chloride in combination with tributyltin hydride showed unique c
haracter as an initiator of certain radical reactions. Hydrostannation of a
lpha,beta-unsaturated ketones with Bu3SnH was initiated by CuCl and the res
ulting tin enolates underwent subsequent aldol reaction with aldehydes unde
r the influence of CuCl as a Lewis acid catalyst. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science
