Abstract
The structure of tribarium dimanganese octaoxide, Ba3Mn2O8, has been refine d from neutron powder diffraction data, establishing that the phase is hexa gonal in space group R (3) over bar m, with unit-cell dimensions a = 5.71 a nd c = 21.44 Angstrom. Two distinct Ba sites are observed, and the Mn is pr esent in a slightly distorted tetrahedral environment.
