Abstract
The protonated tripodal podand [L-6 + H](+) forms stable and organized mono metallic podates [Ln(L-6 + H)](4+) where Ln(III) is facially nine-coordinat ed by three wrapped unsymmetrical tridentate binding units. An unusual trif urcated hydrogen bond assists the organisation of the covalent tripod.
