CD-ROM plan implementation and delivery for extension clientele

This paper describes a project conducted to develop a system in Kentucky fo r CD-ROM distribution of plans including scanning of current relevant ink o r pencil drawings, while maintaining the necessary level of detail in a man ageable size and electronic format. To date, 97 current plans on hard copy have been scanned into electronic TIFF format. They are currently being con verted to PDF format for use in Adobe Acrobat Reader systems. A single orig inal 43 cm x 56 cm (17 " x22 ") sheet results in a file size of approximate ly 85-120KB in PDF format, and maintains sharp detail for use in a searchab le CD-ROM system employed by the Cooperative Extension Service in Kentucky. The scanned image is printed in 22 cm x 28 cm (8 1/2 " x 11 ") format. The results of this project should have application in many other states.
