The paper presents a computer program to evaluate the internal forces in th
e wall of circular concrete manure tanks due to temperature effects and ext
ernal loads such as liquid, soil, ice and machinery pressures. Based on the
theory of beam on elastic foundation, equations were implemented into a co
mputer program to analyze long or short tanks, with different base restrain
ts, for any level of liquid, soils, temperature or ice. The input data are:
liquid level, soil level, wall temperatures, ice pressure and ice cap posi
tion, height and thickness of the wall and the Young's modulus of the wall
material. The results are: the normal force and bending moment distribution
in the wall. With these data, the designer can evaluate the reinforcing st
eel area and wall construction details.
