Abstract
A combination of crystallographic and mutagenesis studies on the HERG K+ ch annel, a key determinant of cardiac excitability, has suggested how the pro tein's extramembraneous amino terminal domain might act as a 'molecular bra ke' that slows down channel deactivation.
