Abstract
Single wavelength soliton transmission at 80 Gbit/s has been successfully p erformed over 172 km of installed fibre, using part of a commercial metropo litan optical network in Jonkoping, Sweden. Soliton data with pulsewidths o f 4.5 ps were successfully transmitted with an average power penalty for al l eight time-division-multiplexed channels of 1.3 dB.
