K. Sdzuy et al., The Leonian stage (early Middle Cambrian): a unit for Cambrian correlationin the Mediterranean subprovince, GEOL MAG, 136(1), 1999, pp. 39-48
The Leonian (early Middle Cambrian) regional Stage of Iberia is revised fro
m a lithostratigraphic and biostratigraphic point of view in order to propo
se it as a chronostratigraphic unit for the Mediterranean subprovince (outc
rops in Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Morocco and Turkey). This revision n
ow permits a correlation of the Leonian Stage with the other early Middle C
ambrian regional Stages. For this correlation the first appearance datum (F
AD) of Eoparadoxides mureroensis, Macannaia spp., Schistocephalus antiquus
and Oryctocara granulata are employed for the lower boundary; while the FAD
s of Badulesia tenera, Ctenocephalus (Hartella) spp., Parasolenopleura acul
eata and Triplagnostus gibbus are employed for the upper boundary.
