Abstract
The effect the finite pole lengths of thin film heads on signal and noise p roperties of thin film recording media was investigated. In addition to the experimental data, theoretical signal and medium-noise analyses were devel oped incorporating available analytical head sensitivity functions and, whe re appropriate, gapped head image fields. Overall, predictions compare well with observations of signal roll-off curves, noise spectra and total noise power. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
