A calorimetric investigation of a commercial NiTi alloy of composition near
ly 50:50 at.% with one- and with two-way memory effect is presented. The di
fferent training processes, used to obtain the two-way memory effect, gener
ate some modifications such as a shift of the temperatures of transformatio
n. The changes in the temperature and enthalpy of transformation between th
e one-way and two-way memory samples are presented, compared and discussed.
These changes are believed to be explained by modifications in the free en
ergy and energy level of the trained sample. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V.
