Abstract
The electron transfer in the course of the electrochemical oxidation of hex amethyldisilane and the electroreduction of chlorotrimethylsilane in anhydr ous acetonitrile was shown to follow a dissociative mechanism. The same pro cesses carried out upon sonication with ultrasounds of low (20 kHz) and hig h (500 kHz) frequency did not reveal any decrease of the effective potentia l. The effect of ultrasounds was only to intensify the mass transfer and to accelerate the CI-F exchange of chlorotrimethylsilane with the fluorine an ion provided by the supporting electrolyte.
