Abstract
This study addressed the question of whether personally meaningful goal-dir ected therapeutic activities for post-CVA subjects would facilitate greater improvements in their dynamic standing endurance as opposed to the use of activities that are not personally meaningful. The study involved six elder ly subjects residing in a nursing home who were diagnosed with post CVA and consented to participate in the study. The subjects were given therapy thr ee times a week for four weeks. Their rime in standing was recorded for eac h meaningful and nonmeaningful task performed. Results of the study indicat ed that the subjects showed a statistically significant increase in standin g time with personally meaningful activities versus nonmeaningful tasks.
