Treatment of beta-ketoiminates with [(allyl)Pd(mu-Cl)](2) affords volatile,
air-stable allyl(beta-ketoiminato)palladium(II) complexes. The structure o
f [(methallyl)Pd(Phacac)] (Phacac = MeCOCHCMeNPh) was determined by single-
crystal X-ray diffraction. In solution H-1 NMR analyses indicate either a d
irect rotation of a planar allyl ligand about the allyl-palladium axis or a
solvent-assisted exchange process involving the transient formation of a m
onodentate ketoiminato ligand. The physical properties of the complexes wer
e modified by altering the B-ketoiminato or the eta(3)-allyl ligands. Some
derivatives are liquid at room temperature and were known to be suitable fo
r chemical vapor deposition of Pd thin films.
