Abstract
We look at the possibility that appreciable neutrino masses and flavor mixi ng occur only within material media, driven by an interaction between lepto ns and a very light scalar particle. Limits are placed on the scalar partic le mass and coupling constants from a number of experimental and astrophysi cal considerations. (C) 1999 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
