To study the three-dimensional (3D) corrective mechanisms of the Cotrel-Dub
ousset Instrumentation (CDI), we used the VICON system with 5 cameras and d
eveloped specific tools. Thus. following a previous study [4], assessments
of vertebral motion for 7 scoliotic patients who underwent CDI were perform
ed within a controlled accuracy (1.5 degrees for rotations & 1 mm for trans
lations). Results show that the CDI provides 3D vertebral motions and the m
easurement method allows the surgeons to objectively analyze the intermedia
te steps of the surgery, and permits the constitution of a data base far fi
nite elements model validation.
