Am. Popescu et V. Constantin, The dependence of current efficiency on the operating parameters in aluminium electrolysis cell with SnO2-based inert anodes, REV RO CHIM, 43(9), 1998, pp. 793-798
A systematic study was conducted in a small laboratory aluminium cell with
SnO2-based inert anodes, to determine the current efficiency (CE). The curr
ent efficiency was determined by measuring the total amount of oxygen evolv
ed at the anode. The influence of temperature, current density and interpol
ar distance was, evaluated. The quantitative interdependences and the corres
ponding calculated equations as well as the ranges of CE optimal values wer
e established. High values of 93-96% obtained for CE indicate that SnO2-bas
ed inert anodes could be more performant than the conventional carbon ones.
