Abstract
Efficient laser systems for plasma probing have been developed using stable cavity configurations with low diffraction losses to improve the sensitivi ty of photoionization diagnostics. These probing systems were tested in dem onstration experiments using the FT-1 tokamak. The results indicate that re liable measurements of the neutral hydrogen density may be made in the rang e 10(8)-10(9) cm(3) in a tokamak plasma. (C) 1999 American Institute of Phy sics.
