Abstract
A one pot selective mono N-alkylation of primary amides, thioamides, carbam ates and ureas has been developed using aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes as alkylating agents and trifluoroacetic acid I triethylsilane as reagents. A pplication to an efficient synthesis of a primary amine from the correspond ing aldehyde via the carbamate intermediate is presented. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
