This paper is a presentation of an analytical model for the elastic-partly
plastic behaviour of circular hollow steel struts subjected to static cycli
c axial loading. The material follows a quasi-kinematic hardening hysteresi
s path. The assumed shape of the elastic and permanent deformations of the
axis of the strut satisfies the boundary conditions. Elastic deformation is
derived including large deflection. The variation of parameters of partial
plastic deformations of the yielded zone are determined by interpolation i
n terms of those at mid-span, at the support and at two intermediate points
along the partly plastic zone. The permanent deformations of the partly pl
astic region about mid-span are computed and used to update the shape of th
