There are numerous reasons, such the saturation of the existing downstream
sewer system or its concentrate discharge impact on the receiving water, fo
r using stormwater infiltration systems. However, their feasibility within
an urban development project depends on physical soil characteristics and c
ontamination risk, and also on socio-economic considerations. The choice sh
ould be based on multiple comparative evaluations. This paper is an overvie
w of feasibility and decision criteria, taking stock of currently available
models and approaches. (C) 1999 IAWQ Published by Elsevier Science Ltd. Al
