COMPOSITES PART A-APPLIED SCIENCE AND MANUFACTURING
In the present study, ductile cobalt is introduced into an Al2O3-TiC cerami
c to form an Al2O3-TiC ceramic matrix composite using a newly developed che
mical deposition process rather than conventional powder metallurgy. Experi
mental results reveal that this chemical deposition process is an effective
method for improving the wetting between ceramic and metal interfaces. The
resultant composite exhibits a higher fracture toughness than that without
cobalt. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
