Abstract
The transmission of 32 dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) channe ls at 10Gbit/s over 450km of dispersion managed cable, using LEAF(TM) and s ub-LS(TM) fibres, is demonstrated. The use of LEAF(TM) fibre in the high po wer region of transmission effectively reduces any nonlinear effects. Q val ues ranging from 7.5 to 11.1 (bit error rate (BER) between 2 X 10(-14) and 6.3 X 10(-29)) were obtained for all channels without any extra dispersion compensation at the transmitter or receiver.
