H. Philip et Jf. Ritz, Gigantic paleolandslide associated with active faulting along the Bogd fault (Gobi-Altay, Mongolia), GEOLOGY, 27(3), 1999, pp. 211-214
On the basis of analyses of satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and held
observations, we describe the occurrence of one of the largest paleolandsl
ides (50 km(3)) ever recognized in an intracontinental domain. The slide oc
curred along the active Bogd fault in the Gobi-Altay mountain range in Mong
olia. Morphological and structural analyses of the relationships between th
e landslide and the area affected by active tectonics suggests that this gi
gantic mass movement was associated with surface faulting during a strong e
arthquake.
