Regioselective homolytic alkylations leading to substitution for highly ele ctron-deficient aromatics such as fluoro- or trifluoromethyl-substituted be nzaldehydes and benzonitriles are observed via electron transfer chain proc esses in the presence of 1,4-diazabicyclo [2.2.2] octane.
