A series of MoSi2-Si3N4 base composites was evaluated for potential Navy ga
s turbine engine applications. The composites underwent cyclic oxidation te
sting to determine their oxidation and thermal shock resistance. Specimens
were exposed to 900 degrees C for 55 min followed by a 5 min air-cool. Afte
r 500 cycles, the specimens were examined for phase transformations, weight
and elemental changes. and thermal shock resistance. (C) 1999 Elsevier Sci
