Abstract
The electron momentum anisotropy of indium phosphide has been studied by me
asuring the directional Compton profiles of indium phosphide single crystal
s with the use of radiation from an, Am-241 gamma source. Three different s
amples, cut along the [100], [110] and [111] planes, were used. The experim
ental anisotropy has been compared with the results based on the linear com
bination of Gaussian orbitals (LCGO) method. The agreement is very good wit
h our theoretical results. It is found that the extrema appearing in the de
pendences on q of the anisotropies have an intimate connection with the bon
ding properties of the semiconductor. A self-consistent, all-electron, loca
l density calculation for the partial density of states, total density of s
tates and the charge analysis is also presented here. (C) 1999 Elsevier Sci
